Personal Experience

If you have a short break from work or school, where do you want to go? Why? #7Qn\C2
Include details and examples to support your explanation.

Personal Preference

When it is time to buy something, do you prefer to buy online or to go into a shopping center? HkEp}R
Explain your reason for your choice.

1. A or B? 2. Agree or Disagree? 3. Advantages and Disadvantages.

Integrated Speaking 1

Integrated Speaking 2

Conversation

Lecture

A word in blue in a passage indicates that a definition is available for the word. Clicking on the word brings up this definition。最后,新托福的阅读部分还有一个Help button,考生点击这个按键之后,将会得到a list of topics for which helpful explanations are available。

  READING SECTION

Reading Text Time Allowed Length of Passage Number of Questions /^4)V8D_S
  Passage 1 20 minutes 600-750 12-14 (B$2)yZY
  Passage 2 20 minutes 600-750 12-14 } k5pfz
  Passage 3 20 minutes 600-750 12-14 jS R:ltd
  Passage 4 & 5 20 minutes 600-750 12-14 each )j6S<mn
There may be five reading passages in some versions of the test.

  A. Click on One Answer: For this multiple-choice type of question, you will choose the best of four possible answers;

rzqCQZHL5
  B. Add a Sentence: For this type of question, you will click on a square to add a sentence to the passage. 这种插入句子题的文章中有4个“■”,然后题目给考生一句话,问考生这句话应该插在文章中哪一个所标“■”的地方。一般,题目的提问方式是这样的:Look at the four squares [■] that indicate where the following sentence could be added to the passage;

HO' ELiZ_q
  C. Drag Answer Choices: For this type of question, you will use the mouse to drag text to complete a summary or table. An introductory sentence for a brief summary of the passage is provided below. Complete the summary by selecting the THREE answer choices that express the most important ideas in the passage. Some sentenced do not belong in the summary because they express ideas that are not presented in the passage or are minor ideas in the passage. This question is worth 2 points。

L0+@{GP?
Language Use: These questions generally fall at the beginning of set for a passage. Language-use questions constitute about half of the total Reading section questions. 4jG@ #
Inferring word meaning from context 7 to 10 per test vtL)
  Locating a referent 3 per test )}paQmy#
  Defining a key term 1 to 2 per test {jk {K6 }
  Understanding rhetorical function 3 to 4 per test c:=Z<0S;
  Paraphrasing 2 to 3 per test Bljh'Qp>C
Understanding coherence 3 per test ^GRd;v=-@
Basic Comprehension: These questions constitute roughly a third of the total Reading section questions. T*YdGIFO
Understanding details 8 to 10 per test DCw ldkdJN
Drawing an inference 3 to 4 per test {Ziq~{W_
Identifying the main idea 1 per test "B+M5B0Z
Reading to learn: These questions generally fall at the end of the set for a passage. There are about 5 total reading-to-learn questions in the Reading section. |nm,5gPNC
  Inferring the author’s opinion or attitude 1 per test .Ta$@sPh}
Understanding details as they relate to the main idea (multiple choice) 1 per test _ZR2?y-M
Understanding details as they relate to the main idea (schematic table) 1 per test hfEGkaV._3
Summarizing the most important points 2 per test

All the language use questions refer to a word, sentence, or paragraph in the reading passage. Whenever a question refers to a particular word or sentence in the passage, the word or sentence is highlighted. You don not need to search for it. Detail questions on TOEFL iBT identify the particular paragraph in which the answer can be found, so you do not need to scan the passage in order to find the location of an answer to a detail question.

The first point the professor makes that casts doubt on the reading is his point about the behavior of stags. The professor shows how the actions of animal can be interpreted in different ways. For example, some people interpret the stag’s actions as being for the “good of the species,” but the professor shows that the stag is actually acting in self-interest. This casts doubt on the reading because it appears that the crickets’ behavior can be interpreted as helping only individual crickets and not the group as a whole. The professor then talks about the results of the experiment, which seems to indicate the crickets are acting only in self-interest.

Another point the professor makes that casts doubt on the reading is his point about the intelligence of animals and insects. As he states, it would seem to require a lot of intelligence to evaluate how a behavior will affect an entire species. This makes the explanation in the reading seem less likely; a cricket is probably unable to think of the consequences of its actions. It is more likely that the cricket is only acting out of self-preservation, as the professor indicates.

The first point the professor makes that casts doubt on the reading is his point about__________________________________. O7q-MeMM

For example, ______________________________, but the professor shows that_______________________________________. 3!ulBiMh

The professor then talks about_________________________, which seems to indicate that___________________________. rX fQ_
Another point the professor makes that casts doubt on the reading is his point about__________________________________. U7 Z_

This makes the explanation in the reading seem less likely;_____________________________________. G|X1c}zAL
It is more likely that________________________, ad the professor indicates.

The lecturer talks about research conducted by a firm that used the group system to handle their work。 He says that the theory stated in the passage was very different and somewhat inaccurate when compared to what happened for real。

First, some members got free rides。 That is, some did not work hard but got recognition for the success nonetheless。 This also indicates that people who worked hard was not given recognition they should have got。 In others words, they were not given the opportunity to “shine”。 This directly contradicts what the passage indicates。

Second, groups were slow in progress。 The passage says that groups are more responsive than individuals because of the number of people involved and their aggregated resources。 However, the speaker talks about how the firm found out that groups were slower than individuals in decision making。 Groups needed more time for meetings, which are necessary procedures in decision making。 This was another part where experience contradicted theory。

Third, influential people might emerge, and lead the group towards glory or failure。 If the influent people are going in the right direction there would be no problem。 But in the cases where they go in the wrong direction, there is nobody that has enough influence to counter the decision made。 In other words, the group might turn out into a dictatorship, with the influential part as the leader, and might be less flexible in thinking。 They might become one-sided, and thus fail to succeed。
